Mama Hope, a small yet inspiring community development organization active in East Africa, sought to provide a new means of connecting current and prospective travelers with its work in the field. Focusing on the St. Timothy’s project in Tanzania, our aim was to create an immersive impact trip that blends the natural & cultural treasures of the destination with an organic connection to Mama Hope and its incredible work in the field.

Through a close relationship with Mama Hope’s field staff in Tanzania and local community leaders, Only Six Degrees crafted and operated a Kilimanjaro summit expedition, sandwiched by ‘insider’ experiences in the city of Moshi, hosted visits to St. Timothy’s school, and immersive tours of the communities impacted by Mama Hope’s work.

Through the life-changing experience of a Kili summit, our group of donors built a life-long bond with the destination and the projects visited. The travelers were able to see exactly how their donations were utilized, and gained an authentic view of the communities they support in a manner that is organic, without the asymmetry of a usual benefactor-recipient transaction. Given the way in which the trip was crafted, most of the funds spent by the travelers remained in the communities visited, with about a $500 per person direct donation to Mama Hope’s projects. The experience catalyzed a stronger sense of belonging, which translated to greater giving and advocacy, as well as serve as press and marketing materials for awareness and fund-raising campaigns.
